The Tragedy of Geto Suguru: When Being "The Strongest" Isn't Enough
"Are you the strongest because you are Gojo Satoru? Or are you Gojo Satoru because you are the strongest?" We analyze the heartbreaking descent of Geto Suguru and why he is the most tragic villain in Jujutsu Kaisen.
The Moral Compass
Before he was a villain, Geto Suguru was the "good guy." In the Hidden Inventory Arc, he was the one lecturing Gojo about responsibility. His philosophy was simple: " The strong exist to protect the weak."
So, how did this righteous student become a man who wanted to exterminate all non-sorcerers?
The brilliance of Gege Akutami’s writing is that Geto’s fall wasn't sudden. It was a slow, painful erosion caused by the very people he swore to protect.
The Sound of Applause
The turning point is brutal. After protecting Riko Amanai for days, Geto watches her die. But what breaks him isn't her death—it's the reaction of the "monkeys" (non-sorcerers).
He sees ordinary humans clapping and cheering for the death of a teenage girl. In that moment, his philosophy ("Protect the weak") clashes with his reality ("The weak are hideous").
While Gojo ascends to godhood and becomes "The Strongest," Geto is left behind in the dirt, forced to consume curses that taste like "vomit-soaked rags" to save people he no longer respects.

"Are You Gojo Satoru?"
Geto’s final question to Gojo is one of the most famous lines in modern anime. It reveals his inferiority complex and his loneliness.
He realized that he couldn't save the world the "right" way because he wasn't a god like Gojo. So, he chose to become a demon to create a paradise for his family.
His death in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is tragic not because he lost, but because his best friend had to be the one to do it.
Conclusion: Blue Summer
Geto Suguru represents the burnout of the hero. He shows us that empathy is a finite resource, and when it runs out, even the kindest soul can turn dark.
Do you agree with Geto's ideology? Or was he just broken by trauma? Discuss in the comments.
