If you just finished the 1997 Berserk anime, the Golden Age movie trilogy, or the recent Memorial Edition and witnessed the absolute horror of the Eclipse, you have only seen the prologue of the story. You are officially at the point where Guts begins his endless, bloody journey as the Black Swordsman.

To continue the saga, you need to start reading the manga from Volume 14.

This volume marks the start of the "Conviction Arc: Lost Children" chapter.

Why skipping any part of Berserk is a mistake: While the Golden Age covers the beginning of Guts and Griffith's relationship, the manga volumes 1 through 3 actually take place after the Eclipse. The anime skipped these "Black Swordsman" introductory volumes. Starting at Volume 14 gets you on the right path, but if you want the full context of Kentaro Miura’s masterpiece, you should eventually go back to Volume 1. Volume 14 is where the true scale of the horror, the incredible world-building, and Miura's legendary, detailed art style begins to evolve into the museum-quality masterpiece it is known as today.
